Just uploaded some picks from last night’s “I Sell the Dead” screening at the IFC Center in NYC.
I was invited to the sold-out premiere by Brian Spears and Pete Gerner, long-time friends who provided the film with special effects make-up.
Given my friendship with the participants, I can’t offer an unbiased review, although Fangoria posted a solid review here and the users at IMDB give it a 7.8 out of 10.
I will say:
1. It has this guy, the most entertaining movie zombie since Bub in “Day of the Dead.” I want to see a zombie flick based around this character.
2. It has two pitch perfect, funny performances from its leads (Dominic Monaghan and Larry Fessenden) — but the entire cast is great, from Angus Scrimm on down.
3. Writer director Glenn McQuaid is obviously a dude we’re going to hear more about.
4. Cinematographer Richard Lopez deserves a special Oscar for turning a corner of Staten Island into a 1960s Hammer horror flick.
